Some music you have to hear, but the best music is felt. That’s the best way I can describe Eric Penn’s latest performance of “Sinking Sand” on Stay Busy Sessions. Backed by production from Brandon John, the New York resident steps in to story of inevitable heartbreak with his heart on his sleeve and his soulful voice imprinted on the listener’s ear drum.
“The saying goes if it stays let it stay for a little while/But if it goes let it go, even if you long for it/What if it leaves and it leaves an open wound?” Penn sings.
“That consumes you and a smile, that you put on/That’s a mile long, won’t even mask it up/Sinking sand/I fell in sinking sand.”
Coming out of the Empire State by way of Virginia Beach, Penn is an emotive creative with a poetic voice that is reminiscent of a night at a Busboys & Poets show. While “Sinking Sand” is a year old, his newer releases like “Enough” and “Long Way Home” keep fans wanting more. More recently, his work has caught the eye of Stay Busy, The Joe Budden Podcast and several other outlets.
Penn’s performance of “Sinking Sand” is the second installment of the “Stay Busy Sessions” series with Armon Sadler and Nic Earley. Previously, Def Pen favorite Reggie Becton stopped buy while on tour with the talented Grace Weber. Check out Penn’s performance below and be sure to double back and hear Reggie Becton dive a bit deeper into his story and the journey he took to create California.
