Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has signed his franchise tender, according to Chiefs reporter BJ Kissel. He will be attending practice Monday after holding out for the whole preseason due to contract disputes. The former Tennessee Volunteer couldn’t reach an agreement with the Chiefs on a long-term extension before the July 15th deadline, so he will play out the 2016 season under the tag. Berry will be making $10 million this year and will become a free agent in March.
Eric Berry was one of the biggest stories in all of football last year. He recovered from Hodgkin’s lymphoma and made it to the fourth Pro Bowl of his career. While he likely won’t play in the Chiefs’ final preseason game, he will start in the first regular season game. Now that they have Berry back, the Chiefs’ defense looks like one of the best in the league.
