Elle Fanning will star in the upcoming How to Talk to Girls at Parties, based off of the short story.
Written by Neil Gaiman, the original story follows two teenage boys at a party in 1970s London. When they begin to mingle, they soon realize that the girls are more than they seem.
In the movie adaptation, Fanning will play an American tourist who escapes her tour group and ends up at the party in Croydon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The sci-fi story, published in 2006, was nominated for a Hugo Award for best short story and won the Locus Award in the same category.
Howard Gertler, who received an Academy Award nomination for the documentary How to Survive a Plague, will produce with Gaiman, while John Cameron Mitchell will direct.
Fanning has previously featured in Maleficent, Super 8 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
