In a field of musicians and creatives that becomes more crowded with the introduction of every new social media and production tool, how do you stand out? On one hand, you could say and do something outlandish to get traction on social media and drive it back to the music. On the other hand, you could follow a sonic trend and see if you can make a hit within that framework. There’s also a third option. Stick to what feels natural to you and deliver it in a creative format that is unique to your style. While it’s easier said than done, Dreamer Isioma has done the latter. Pulling from a wide array of musical influences ranging from swing to Afrobeats, the Chicago native has slow-cooked musical gumbo that is both appetizing to the ear and the soul.
The last time we talked about Dreamer Isioma’s work was back in March. This month, we’ve returned to celebrate the release of the rising artist’s sophomore LP, Princess Forever. The audible adventure centers around a Dreamer’s alter ego, Princess Forever. This beautifully courageous figure “liberates their people from an oppressive regime, beautifully celebrating their own Nigerian roots which line the album.” Along the way, this musically inclined character is assisted by the likes of redveil, Dante Swan and Merlyn Wood.
Dreamer Isioma’s sophomore album sets the stage for their Love & Rage Tour. Set to kick off on May 10, 2023, this month-long tour will bring Dreamer Isioma and Amindi through Minneapolis, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, New York and several other cities. Ultimately, things will come to a close in Chicago on June 8, 2023. Before tickets sell out in your cities, grab one and listen to Princess Forever below.
