There’s a bit of bad news brewing for DoorDash users that order groceries from Walmart. After developing a four-year partnership, both Walmart and DoorDash have agreed to go their separate ways. As a result, the delivery app will no longer offer grocery deliveries from the popular store.
According to Emma Roth of The Verge, a spokesperson for DoorDash said that the partnership “was no longer mutually beneficial” for either party. Moving forward, the delivery app would like to “focus on its long-term customer relationships.”
“We have agreed to part ways with DoorDash,” Walmart spokesperson Leigh Stidham told The Verge.
“We’d like to thank DoorDash for their partnership and support of our customers the past several years.”
At this time, it is unclear if DoorDash will continue to offer individual orders from the superstore. On the contrary, Instacart appears to continue with its longstanding relationship with Walmart.
While DoorDash ends one partnership with Walmart, it has revealed plans to start a new venture with Meta, formerly known as Facebook. FOX 29 has reported that DoorDash will deliver Facebook Marketplace purchases that are small enough to fit in the trunk of a car within a radius of up to 15 miles. In addition to forming a relationship with Meta, DoorDash CEO Tony Xu has also joined the board of Meta.
“Millions of local merchants use Meta’s tools to grow and run their businesses every month,” Xu said.
“I look forward to working with the board as the company enters the next stage of its journey.”
