“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin and [t]he Republican National Convention by two days, but [I] have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter’ or potential assassin, to change [my] scheduling, or anything else,” he wrote on Truth Social.
On Saturday, July 13, Donald Trump led a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. During the event, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident is accused of opening fire in the direction of the presumptive Republican Party. The shooting left the former reality show host with a blood dripping down his ear, one attendee dead and another wounded. Immediately after the shooting, the former President received medial attention at a nearby facility and the wounded attendee was rushed to the hospital. Ultimately, the shooter was killed and the remaining attendees were evacuated.
“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” President Joe Biden stated after the shooting.
“Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”
Before the Republican National Convention kicks off on Monday, President Joe Biden is expected to address the nation on Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m. EST.
