Donald Glover and company are now only a month away from sharing the first episode of Atlanta‘s third season. While fans may feel that the show’s return is long overdue, it’s actually a miracle that there’s a third season at all. If Glover had his way, the show would have ended after its second season. Instead, Atlanta will end after season four. Why will it end after four installments, Glover says, “Death is natural.”
“Death is natural,” Glover said earlier this week, according to Variety.
“I feel like when the conditions are right for something, they happen, and when the conditions aren’t right, they don’t happen. I don’t feel any longevity. Because then things start to get weird. The story was always supposed to be what it was. And the story, it really was us. Everybody in that writers’ room, everybody on set. It really was what we were going through and what we talked about. I think it ends perfectly.”
The show will come to an official end this fall when season four hits FX. However, Glover isn’t opposed to revisit the show’s ethos in the future.
“If there’s a reason to do it, of course. Like a Christmas special,” he said jokingly, according to Variety.
“It always depends. I like keeping my options open.”
Glover is not leaving the world of television and film completely. Last February, he signed a “multiple-year, eight-figure” deal with Amazon. As for his music career, Glover had said prior to the release of 3.15.20 that his next album would be his last.
