Dolly Parton’s fear of Jolene and how the temptress could take her man is about to become a reality… in movie form.
The country singer, who’s already executive producing Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors for NBC next season, is now looking to adapt her hit song “Jolene” into a small-screen flick.
“Jolene” was released in 1973 and is about a gorgeous woman who threatens to take Parton’s man.
The singer reportedly said the tune was inspired by a bank clerk who flirted with her husband, Carl Dean. The song became a No. 1 single on the country charts.
Parton’s first film for NBC, Coat of Many Colors, chronicles her humble upbringing and stars Rick Schroeder and Jennifer Nettles. It is expected to air around the holidays.
“Dolly and I started talking about what kind of projects we might want to do together over a year and a half ago, and she’s always been interested in telling stories from her childhood,” Haskell told reporters. “We just weren’t quite sure how we would get to that point unless we started at a point that would touch families. … So we decided, ‘Why don’t we look at your library, and we’ll find songs that make complete sense to tell stories.”’ And most of Dolly’s greatest hits have told stories. ‘Coat of Many Colors’ is her signature. It had to be the first one.”
