Rapper DMX checks himself into rehab canceling upcoming scheduled shows and appearances.
DMX has publically acknowledged his issues with substance abuse in the past. His trips to rehab have not been secret nor, his arrests for drug possession and other charges. Still, DMX continues to aim for a sober, fulfilling life. The Hip-Hop icon was released from prison in January after serving a year for tax fraud.
Once he got out, DMX began touring and working, celebrating the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed debut album It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot. The spring tour ended in May however DMX continued working. The New York rapper recently signed a new deal with Def Jam.
“Yeah, it’s good to be back home. I wanted to be a part of Def Jam since 1985, when the movie Krush Groove came out. And I found out that Run’s last name was Simmons, and Russell’s last name was Simmons. And Russell was running Def Jam. I saw the movie Krush Groove, and I was like, “Yo.” And at that point, I was so naive then. I was like, “Yo. If I could just meet them.” And like, “Yo, my last name is Simmons too.” And that’s it.” said DMX in an interview with GQ.
A career revival seemed to loom over DMX’s head but the rapper now puts everything aside to focus on his own health. An Instagram post uploaded Sunday, October 13, shared the news that the 48-year-old rapper checked himself into rehab. DMX was due to perform during Rolling Loud NYC on the same day.
