Star Wars has made a strong return to dominance at the box-office in the past couple years and the world-famous film franchise doesn’t intend to stop there. After releasing Episode VII: The Force Awakens and starting another trilogy, they released their first stand-alone Star Wars movie ‘Rogue One’, which also performed remarkably at the box-office. Now, Disney and Lucasfilm intend to keep the snow-ball rolling by developing even more stand-alone projects. With the Han-Solo project already shooting with Ron Howard as it’s new director, Disney has shifted it’s focus to developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone movie.
According to Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry is linked to the project:
Stephen Daldry is Star Wars’ newest hope.
The Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in early talks to helm a Star Wars stand-alone movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Not only is the infamous Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has been played by both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guiness in their respective trilogies, will have his own stand-alone movies. Now there is now word on who might be casted for the part of the Jedi master but we do know that Disney may be developing other stand-alone projects in the near future:
The Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone is one of several projects being developed by Lucasfilm and Disney that fall outside the trilogies telling the saga of the Skywalker family. A Han Solo movie is now in the final stages of shooting under new director Ron Howard, and Lucasfilm is also considering pics centering on Yoda and bounty hunter Boba Fett, among other characters.
Fans of the beloved Star Wars trilogies will be excited to see one of their favourite Jedi’s grace the movie screen again. As a fan myself, I will be watching for a release date.
