Deion Sanders will coach the University of Colorado Buffaloes at the start of the 2023-2024 college football season, but he is not heading west just yet. Sanders has confirmed that he will coach the Jackson State Tigers during the Celebration Bowl on December 17, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’ve chosen to accept the job elsewhere next year,” Sanders told the Jackson State Tigers after the 2022 SWAC Championship.
“I’m gonna finish what we started, and we’re gonna dominate. I’m gonna be here until that end and that conclusion, and then when that conclusion… we’ll move on.”
Throughout the week, Sanders’ decision to coach at Colorado has been met with intense criticism. Despite the backlash, he has doubled down on his decision to coach at the Celebration Bowl.
“I would see it no other way,” he explained.
“We had an intimate conversation with the team after the game. I mean, we talked about everything, we talked everything out. I broke it down to them, laid it down to them. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I wouldn’t allow anyone to tell me I couldn’t finish with my team. We’ve got to finish.”
The 2022 Celebration Bowl will feature Jackson State Tigers and the North Carolina Central University Eagles. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. EST on December 17 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
