The injury-plagued San Antonio Spurs have another problem added to their list: Veteran forward David Lee, who left in the first quarter of Game 3 on Saturday night with an apparent leg injury.
Lee underwent an MRI Sunday morning that confirmed he suffered a partially torn patellar tendon, his agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN.com:
Spurs center David Lee is expected to miss Game 4 of the Western Conference finals because of a knee injury, coach Gregg Popovich said Sunday.
An MRI confirmed that Lee has a partially torn patellar tendon, his agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. He will be re-evaluated in a few days to determine whether surgery is needed, Bartelstein said.
David Lee joins Kawhi Leonard (ankle) and Tony Parker (quad) as key Spurs players who are already sidelined to injury this postseason.
Lee, who signed a free-agent contract to join the Spurs last offseason, was averaging 7.3 points and 5.6 rebounds during the playoffs. Before exiting the game on Sunday, he had scored four points in two minutes of action.
Lee will have the right to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 or exercise his $2.3 million player option to return with the team next season.
