James Gunn’s mysterious take on The Suicide Squad just got a little more interesting. David Dastmalchian, best known for his role as Kurt in the Ant-Man films, has officially joined the cast of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Dastmalchian will be playing Polka-Dot Man, a longtime villain in the DC comics. The unorthodox villain first got his start in 1962’s Detective Comics No. 300. Since then, the spotted villain hasn’t appeared very much. But, considering his work on the Guardians films, those are the characters Gunn handles the best.
Dastmalchian joins Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney, who are both reprising their roles from 2014’s Suicide Squad. Dastmalchain isn’t the only new face though as Idris Elba is also signed on to star in the film (in a still-unspecified role). Gunn’s The Suicide Squad won’t be a sequel to that original train wreck but more of a reimagining. That’s probably for the best as DC restructures their plans for a shared universe after getting off to a rough start.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2021.
