
For the last few years, Dave Chappelle has toyed with the mediums in which he releases context. At first, he locked in a deal to release content on Netflix. After releasing a few specials behind a paywall, Chappelle moved his work to YouTube. Not long afterward, he was hosting Saturday Night Live. Now, he’s releasing content on Instagram.
February 12 has proved to be a crowded release date in the world of entertainment. Jay-Z and Nipsey Hussle released a new track, Warner Bros. released Judas and the Black Messiah and now Dave Chappelle is releasing an 11-minute monologue called “Redemption Song.”
During the 11-minute piece, Chappelle talked about a number of topics ranging from civil unrest to recovering from COVID-19. While entertaining the audience, he offered a brief update regarding The Chappelle Show.
A few months back, Dave Chappelle was at odds with HBO Max and Netflix regarding The Chappelle Show. While doing a show, Chappelle vented to the audience about the fact that he was not being paid for his contributions to The Chappelle Show despite it being streamed daily on the world’s biggest platforms. In response, he implored fans of his to stop watching the show until he was paid. As a result, the show was pulled from HBO Max and Netflix. In his latest special, Chappelle revealed that the story did not stop there. Ultimately, he received licensing for the show he created and was paid an undisclosed amount. Furthermore, The Chappelle Show could return to streaming platforms in the coming months.
