Last night marked the London Empire Awards, in which the latest Star Wars film scored big in awards, including the best female newcomer award for one Ms. Daisy Ridley. However, that’s not all. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the star confirmed that she’s been having conversations about playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider film in-the-works – but she has not been offered the role. Ridley’s costar, John Boyega, weighed in with his own opinion:
“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version. But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be.”
The Tomb Raider video game was originally published in 1996, and this latest film adaptation of the franchise will not be the first we’ve seen of Lara Croft on the big screen. According to ComingSoon.net, Angelina Jolie played the daredevil archaeologist in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, both of which were done by Paramount Pictures.
Although the script for Tomb Raider is not yet completed, it’s under work by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The film will be directed by Roar Uthaug.
