The Daily Wire has formally cut ties with conservative pundit Candace Owens. The media outlet’s co-founder, Jeremy Boreig, shared the news via X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday, March 22.
“Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship,” the post reads.
Owens responded to Boreig’s succinct message with a post of joy. Moving into media free agency, the polarizing commentator told her viewers that she’s “free” now.
“The rumors are true— I am finally free,” she wrote.
“If you would like to support my work, you can head to CandaceOwens.com where you will be directed to my locals page. Or, you can give a gift at gocandace.com There will be many announcements in the weeks to come.”
Owens is no stranger to opposition as she has been accused of promoting “misinformation and conspiracy theories on a wide range of topics from vaccines to immigrants” since joining the media outlet in 2021. Still, the Daily Wire has elected to stand by her during a wide range of controversies. In more recent weeks, she has been criticized for liking a tweet that suggest a rabbi is “drunk on Christian blood again” and saying there is a “small ring” of “sinister” Jewish people influencing Washington, D.C. and Hollywood.
Daily Wire Co-Founder Ben Shapiro called Owens’ comments “disgraceful” and characterized them as “faux sophistication.” Meanwhile, former YouTuber Nick Fuentes who “often praises Adolf Hitler” has praised her for her commentary, prompting Owens to issue a statement regarding the matter.
“I do not know Nick Fuentes, but you already know that,” she tweeted in response to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) after it highlighted Fuentes’ praise of Owens.
“My crime, is that I do not believe that American taxpayers should have to pay for Israel’s wars or the wars of any other country. I will not change my mind. So the question is what will you do to me next? The world is watching.”
Shortly thereafter, Daily Wire issued a statement of its own. According to Shapiro and Boreig’s company, it would not fire Owens unless her “opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way.”
