The COVID-19 pandemic continues to worsen as the holiday season comes to a close. According to a report from CNN, the US Department of Health and Human Services accounted for 103,000 COVID-19 related hospitalizations on Monday. If accurate, it would mark the first time that U.S. has recorded more than 100,000 COVID-19 related hospitalizations since September 2021.
As the number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations continues to rise, the number of pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations continues to rise. According to Governor J. B. Pritzker, the number of COVID-19 pediatric related hospitalizations has tripled in the state of Illinois since early December. As for the state of New Jersey, Governor Phil Murphy reports that the number of COVID-19 related pediatric hospitalizations has doubled since last week.
“We’re seeing a surge in patients again, unprecedented in this pandemic,” Dr. James Phillips of George Washington University told CNN.
“What’s coming for the rest of the country could be very serious. And they need to be prepared.”
