Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish senior guard Cormac Ryan has announced that he has transferred to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Ryan spent his freshman season with the Stanford Cardinal before playing the past three seasons with the Fighting Irish. He is able to spend a fifth season with the Tar Heels thanks to the extra year of eligibility granted to players due to the impact that the Coronavirus had on the 2020-21 college basketball season. Ryan committed to the program quickly after his official visit to Chapel Hill this week.
The Tar Heels scored big today as Cormac Ryan of Notre Dame will be an instant impact with @UNC_Basketball He can shoot the 3 & is a tenacious defender according to @Coach_MikeBrey in chats with Mike during the year.

This past season as a senior with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Cormac Ryan averaged 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 40.9 percent and a three-point percentage of 34.4 percent. The Tar Heels had six players enter the transfer portal this offseason and Ryan is just the third player to transfer into the program this offseason. Because of that the Tar Heels still have three open scholarships that they need to sign players to for next season. They have talked to several transfers and a few 2023 recruits and will likely fill out the roster fairly quickly in the coming weeks.
