On Thursday, July 17, 2025, City of College Park Councilman Roderick Gay presented Claressa Shields with a special proclamation at the Young Champions Boxing Summer Camp. With Mayor Pro-Tem Jamelle McKenzie and fellow world champion Brian Norman Jr. in attendance, Shields held an open media workout for the College Park community.
Shields, a native of Flint, Michigan, has found a new home in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. Previously, she held an open workout at the historic Morehouse College in February.
“That was an unbelievable experience. I haven’t even had my first fight yet, and I got to meet the greatest female boxer of all time. That’s crazy,” Moni G.G. of the Morehouse Boxing Club said about meeting Shields at the open media workout. “Initially, I thought I was just there to take pictures since I help with the club’s [social] media [channels/accounts]. But then [Morehouse Boxing Club Founder] Jacobey called me and said, ‘Do you have workout clothes?’ Luckily, I was wearing them under my dress. He told me I’d be getting in the ring with Claressa for shadowboxing. That was surreal.”
Then, Claressa Shields was preparing for an undisputed heavyweight title fight with Danielle Perkins. This time around, she’s preparing for a battle with Lani Daniels for the undisputed heavyweight title on July 26, 2025, in Detroit. She is currently a -3000 betting favorite.
