Change is coming to Sunday morning television. After nearly ten years, Chuck Todd will step down as the host of Meet The Press.
“It’s been an amazing nearly decadelong run. I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade,” Todd said on June 4th’s episode of Meet The Press, according to NBC News.
“I’ve loved so much of this job, helping to explain America to Washington and explain Washington to America.”
Todd will remain at the network as the chief political analyst. In this role, he will “serve as a key voice both in the field and during coverage of major events.” Furthermore, he will direct his energy toward upgrading the network’s “long-form journalism” content.
In Todd’s absence, Kristen Welker will become the next host of Meet The Press. She joined the network in 2010 and has become a major figure in the network’s political coverage. She has covered the last three presidential elections and moderated a debate during the most recent presidential cycle.
“She has masterfully moderated primary and general election presidential debates and her sharp questioning of lawmakers is a masterclass in political interviews,” Rebecca Blumenstein and Carrie Budoff Brown of NBC News said in a joint statement.
“She is a dogged reporter who relishes getting big scoops and is widely admired throughout the bureau and the network for her deeply collaborative nature.”
