While Chris Hemsworth is mostly known for his role as Thor in the MCU, he’s actually one of the most diversely talented actors working in Hollywood today. If you’ve seen ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ you know that he can deliver humor at the same level, if not better than most working comedic actors. Though it still seems people overlook The God of Thunders dramatic chops. With the release of ’12 Strong’ this January hopefully this will change. In the film, Hemsworth leads a group of 12 men on horseback (yes, you read that correctly) against a group comprised of Taliban and Al Qaeda members. This remarkable true story took place in the days immediately following 9/11 and the film looks like it’s ready-made to leave a lasting impact on the audience.
We’ve attached the trailer and full synopsis below. ’12 Strong’ is set to hit theatres on January 19th, 2018.
Set in the harrowing days following 9/11, a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Chris Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans—accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare—must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners. – Via Warner Brothers
