If you haven’t seen Childish Gambino’s video for “This Is America” at least seventy five times by now, I’m guessing you have not left your house or used your phone in the past thirty days. If you have, you know that the video captures the attention of America for all of 96 hours, which is nearly impossible in this day and age. As a result, the song catapulted to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and the vcaideo remains among the most watched videos on YouTube this year. From the release of the video, Glover went on to announce his tour with Rae Sremmurd, host Saturday Night Live, star in his own TV series and appear in the new Solo movie. In short, Glover has been on a role lately. This week, Donald Glover’s run reached another milestone. The comedian turned rapper turned actor has received a platinum plaque as his single, “This Is America” is officially platinum.
The platinum plaque is the first in Gambino’s three studio album run as a rapper and singer. Earlier this year, the artist hinted that he is working on an upcoming album that could be release in time for his Fall tour. However, Gambino has also indicated this upcoming album could be his last. This would spell trouble for his fans as there is also speculation that the season two finale of Atlanta could also be the end of the series. Needless to say, everyone is waiting to see what Gambino does next because we literally have no idea what he will do next. In the meantime, we can celebrate his accomplishments. “This is America” is officially platinum!
