A concerning report has come out about Oklahoma City Thunder rookie big man Chet Holmgren. According to a report from Shams Charania, the Thunder fear that the second overall pick has suffered ligament damage in his foot. As a freshman with the Gonzaga Bulldogs last season, Chet Holmgren averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 3.7 blocks per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 60.7 percent and a three-point percentage of 39 percent. Holmgren was widely considered a generational talent coming out of high school and looked the part while in college. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected the Gonzaga Bulldogs freshman with the second overall pick this year in the 2022 NBA Draft. This report is concerning and could impact his first season at the very least.

The further evaluations on the foot of Chet Holmgren will determine where the team goes from here. Oklahoma City was already expected to have at least one more year of “tanking” and if it protects his long-term health the team could decide to shut him down before his rookie season even begins. We here at Def Pen Sports will provide an update when more is learned about the potential injury.
