Next month, HBO will roll out a new season of its hit drama series, Succession. As the show enters its fifth season, it’s safe to say that it’s closing in on its grand finale. With the exception of Game of Thrones, many of the premium network’s hit drama series like The Wire, The Sopranos, The Leftovers, Boardwalk Empire and Six Feet Under have all called it quits in six seasons or less.
During a recent interview, HBO Content CEO Casey Bloys was asked if he would entertain the idea of developing a Succession spinoff series. Without completely shooting the idea down, Bloys said that it is unlikely that the network would do such a thing.
“I don’t think so,” Bloys said when asked if he would develop a Succession spinoff.
“It doesn’t seem to me that there’s something in ‘Succession’ where you would go, ‘Let’s follow just this kid’ or whatever. It doesn’t seem like a natural thing to me. But if [creator Jesse Armstrong] said I want to do this, then I would follow Jesse’s lead.”
One HBO series that has produced a spinoff series is Game of Thrones. The first season debuted in August 2022 and Bloys says that the production of season two recently kicked off. As a result, he says that it is a “good guess” to predict that season two will debut sometime in 2024. Meanwhile, season four of Succession is set to debut in March 2023. Check out the trailer below.
