After the Russell Westbrook trade, the Lakers roster saw several players leaving, and, at the start of free agency, they needed to look for players to fill the spots with cheap players due to the high payroll of Davis, LeBron, and Russ.
Another focus, as it is every season in a LeBron James team, was to look for outside shooting. This past season for the Portland Trail Blazers, Anthony shot close to 41% from the three-point line in almost five attempts per game. As for Monk, he shot 40% on, also, five attempts per game for the Hornets.
The Lakers also signed three former players at the start of free agency.
