On June 20th, fifteen year old, Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, was murdered in the Bronx as he was leaving a bodega. Junior headed to the bodega near midnight and as he was leaving he was grabbed, beaten and stabbed by a group of five men. After being left for dead, Junior used the remainer of his strength to get to Saint Barnabus Hospital where he was pronounced dead. In the days following Junior’s murder, the hashtag #JusticeForJunior and the video of his murder, have gone viral. The social media movement and further investigation has led to five arrests in the murder of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.
Since his death, there has been an outpouring of support from a number of New York luminaries. One of the most thoughtful public figures to respond to this situation has been the Bronx’s own, Cardi B. Over the weekend, Cardi B posted a picture of Junior on Instagram with the caption, “These Bronx streets are ruthless. What piss me off the most is that these BX cops be harassing the sh*t outta people then they see a boy bleeding to death and ask what happen.” After posting the photo, Cardi B decided to donate $8,000 to the family through GoFundMe to help pay for funeral services.
Guzman-Feliz’s wake will take place Monday and Tuesday at Ortiz Funeral Home in the Bronx and his funeral will be held on Wednesday.
