Brandon Roy is set to play for the team that originally drafted him back in 2006 after agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The deal – which cannot be signed until July 11 – is reported to be worth $10 million over the two seasons.
Roy retired in December after 5-years with Portland because of chronic knee issues but a return to NBA action has been speculated for months. Teams interested in the three-time All-Star included the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Cleveland, Dallas and Golden State, ultimately Roy decided that his veteran presence was best utilized on a rising squad like the Wolves.
Minnesota’s Derrick Williams – who wore No.7 last season – welcomed Roy with a tweet.
“Welcome Brandon Roy,” tweeted Williams. “(No.) 7 is all yours.”
