This week Captain Marvel continued to dominate the March box office. Now its second week, the penultimate chapter of the MCU’s Phase 3 added another $69.3 million to its total. Carol Danvers’ expectation-shattering run has now eclipsed $250 million domestic as it nears $800 million worldwide with over $760 million. It’s a stretch for sure, but if it continues at a healthy pace, Captain Marvel could break the $1 billion mark by the end of it’s run.
In second this week is Wonder Park, Paramount’s latest star-studded animated feature. It brought in a healthy $16 million domestically, adding another $4 million from overseas markets. That number certainly breaking isn’t any records but with the longevity of many recent family-oriented films, that could grow exponentially in the coming weeks.
Another newcomer, Five Feet Apart, landed in third this week with $13.1 million made. It only opened domestically so that total wasn’t padded by any extra markets. Five Feet Apart has received good word of mouth, it currently sits with an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it will likely get caught up in the number of ‘passable’ films releasing this spring. Who knows though, maybe it’ll pick up steam if audiences continue to love it.
Rounding out the top five are How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral. First, How to Train Your Dragon added another $9.3 million, pushing its domestic total up to $135.6 million. Then, finally, the latest Madea movie made $8 million in its third week, pushing its domestic haul just shy of $60 million. Check out the rest of the top ten below.
