‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ secures a third week at the top of the box office by earning another $26 million. This pushes its domestic total past the $200 million mark at $201.5 million. The film has already surpassed the $176 million domestic total of its predecessor ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘ back in 2011.
The birds of ‘Rio 2’ aren’t going down without a fight as they are nipping at Capt’s heels. The film landed in the runner up position earning $22.5 million.
The newest Christian film ‘Heaven Is for Real’ benefited from the Easter holiday as the film opened to an impressive $28.5 million during its five-day run.
Johnny Depp scores his second box office disappointment in a row with ‘Transcendence’. The sci-fi thriller earned $11 million at the box office and finished in fourth place. With an estimated budget of $100 million, the film will need a miracle to recoup its losses. The bomb follows in the footsteps of Depp’s last movie ‘The Lone Ranger’ that opened with $26 million against a budget of $215 million last year.
Rounding out the top five is ‘A Haunted House 2’ with $9.1 million earned.
‘Brick Mansions’, ‘The Other Woman’ and ‘The Quiet Ones’ look to dethrone Steve Rogers when they hit theaters Thursday night.
