‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ boasts a huge opening weekend as the sequel nabs a $92 million debut and the top spot at the box office this weekend.
The superhero sequel out grossed its predecessor ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ which brought in $62 million back in 2012. The film was released internationally a week ago and has already generated $370 million worldwide. It is expected to be one of the highest grossing films this year.
The femme fatale revenge comedy ‘The Other Woman’ starring Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann fell to second place with $14.2 million.
The religious film ‘Heaven is for Real’ holds the third place seat with $8.7 million. This brings its domestic total to a whopping $65.6 million.
With ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′ stealing some of its thunder, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ fell to fourth place and earned $7.8 million over the weekend. So far the film has the honor of being the biggest opening weekend of the year earning $95 million back in April.
Rounding out the top five are the animated birds of ‘Rio 2′ which pulled in $7.6 million and pushed past the $100 million mark domestically.
The frat boys of ‘Neighbors’ look to pull one over on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ when they take over theaters Friday night.
