In a quiet weekend at the box office, Aquaman continued to make noise as it beat out Escape Room to take the top spot for the third week in a row. The Jason Momoa-led superhero flick brought in $30.7 million domestically in its third outing, pushing its total haul over $250 million.
Escape Room came in second with $18 million in its opening weekend, essentially doubling its reported $9 million budget. Even with mediocre reviews, its safe to assume a sequel will be made considering the return the film’s already provided at the box office.
Coming in third this week, Mary Poppins Returns continues a respectable run after the holidays. The sequel made $15.7 million stateside over the weekend, good enough to push its total up to $138.7 million domestically. That’s also enough to make back it’s $130 million budget.
Rounding out the top five this week are Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Bumblebee, making $13 million and $12.7 million, respectively. Spider-Man has now made an impressive $133.8 million against a $90 million budget. Bumblebee, however, has yet to break the 100 million mark, making only $97.1 million despite positive reviews.
