
The year of 2018 has been great for people of color making strides in front of and behind the camera. Last week, news broke about Ava DuVernay signing a $100 million content deal. Earlier this year, the movie, Crazy Rich Asians, performed extremely well at the box office. Above all else, Black Panther broke records and set trends as it highlighted the place of Black people in the world of superhero films. In the future, DC Entertainment could be leading the way in portraying Latin people in superhero films. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. announced earlier today that they have began development of Blue Beetle, their first Latin superhero led film
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer of Miss Bala has been tapped to write the screenplay for the developing film. In addition, Zev Foreman is believed to be executive producing the film for Warner Bros. As of now, no casting has been done for the film. Also, there is no scheduled date for the superhero film to hit theaters. Going forward, we’ll see how this film develops as it will definitely break barriers in the world of superhero cinema at DC Entertainment and beyond.
