Beyoncé Knowles and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter have teamed up with Tiffany & Co. to launch a scholarship fund for students attending historically Black colleges and universities. The $2 million fund will be split between talented students at the following universities: Lincoln University, Norfolk State University, Bennett College, Central State University and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
“We would like to thank the Shawn Carter Foundation, BeyGOOD, The Carters and the Tiffany & Co. family for including Lincoln University in this amazing gift, Lincoln University President Brenda A. Allen said in a statement obtained by Variety.
“This opportunity is timely as our students come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds. These funds will have a tremendous effect on who we recruit and our students’ success as they move on to graduate from professional schools and into their careers,” Central State University President Jack Thomas added.
To receive the scholarship, students must already be qualified for financial aid at the university they currently attend. In addition, students must be pursuing degrees in “creative fields” such as media, design, performance, history or communications. Applications will open on September 10 and close on September 26. More information regarding GPA requirements and class standing will be released in the coming days.
