Sen. Bernie Sanders has elected to end his bid to become the 46th President of the United States. Sanders made the announcement on Wednesday while speaking to supporters.
“I wish I could give you better news, but I think you know the truth. And that is that we are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden and the path to victory is virtually impossible,” he said.
“I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful, and so today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign,” he added.
Prior to his 2020 campaign, Sanders had previously ran for the highest office in the land back in 2016. Then, he fell short against former Sen. Hilary Clinton. This time around, Sanders jumped out to an early delegate lead before falling behind Joe Biden after Super Tuesday.
With Sanders decision to drop out of the race, former Vice President Joe Biden has become the presumptive nominee to challenge Donald Trump in the November election. Biden has not yet announced who he will choose as his running mate for the general election. He is expected to make that decision sometime this summer.
