Benny The Butcher may have taken some time away, but he is never gone for too long. The New York native teamed up with Harry Fraud for “Thanksgiving” from The Plugs I Met 2. Back like he never left, the Griselda star delivers bar after bar on this new release.
“Rappers in my genre wanna be me still/I’m too far ahead, it’s easy to feel like I’m cheatin’ when I read these deals,” Benny The Butcher raps.
“Let me take you back to that blue building, back in the day/Where I trapped them two for fifteens, plus that was my age/From that lil’ stage, two or three years, I mastered my ways/We’d be the Jacksons of yay if they gave out plaques for the game/Let me take you back to that lil’ pot, that lil’ flame.”
“Thanksgiving” sets the stage for the upcoming release of The Plugs I Met 2. The Buffalo native describes the project as “darker” and grimmer.
“The mission that I had with this one was to give the other, darker side of the game. On the first Plugs, it was like getting into the game. On the cover of this one, it’s Tony [Montana] and [Alejandro] Sosa [from the film Scarface] shaking hands,” he told William Ketchum III of NPR.
“So it’s about the other side of the glamor of the game, that’s why the beats are dark and my temperament is like that. These dudes never give you the details about the dark side of the game.”
There’s so much to be excited for in music over the next two months and Benny The Butcher’s The Plugs I Met 2 is at the top of the list. Check out “Thanksgiving” below.
