Discovery and BBC have joined forces to launch a new streaming service. Set to launch in 2020, the new streaming service will feature its own programming library and original content. The network also says that the streaming platform will include “experiences and offerings that go well beyond video.” In addition, Discovery’s new platform will feature hundreds of hours of content from BBC Networks. The unnamed platform will offer series such as Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Life and Dynasties and many more. To top it all off, BBC has agreed to create future original content exclusively for Discovery’s newest platform.
Discovery CEO David Zaslav has described the new platform as a “product for curious and passionate viewers of all generations.” He later added, “We hope to fill the void in the global marketplace for a dedicated, high-quality product.”
BBC’s Director Tony Hall echoed Discovery’s sentiments wholeheartedly. Hall explained that the new agreement would take BBC “right across the globe through a new world-beating streaming service. ”
By creating its own streaming service, Discovery will join the likes of NBC and CBS who have recently launched their own streaming platforms. According to AdWeek, the new platform will debut in 2020 and range from $5 to $8 per month. More details will be reported as they become available.
