It is safe to say that women’s boxing is on the upswing. Not only are champions like Amanda Serrano, Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor selling out large venues, but several women in the sport are garnering attention outside of the squared circle of truth. Jessica McCaskill is calling fights on DAZN, Claressa Shields is reportedly working on a biopic with Barry Jenkins and Ramla Ali is signed to one of the top modeling agencies in the world. Among those making noise in and out of the ring is Alycia Baumgardner. Earlier this year, Alycia Baumgardner knocked off previously unbeaten super featherweight champion Mikaela Mayer to move one step close to becoming the undisputed super featherweight champion. Along the way, she has gained a few new fans.
Alycia Baumgardner turned a few heads last month with her ring entrance at the O2 Arena in London. Wearing an extravagant glittering robe, she danced to “Tomorrow 2” by GloRilla and Cardi B. Clips of her ring entrance went viral on social media and even garnered a response from Cardi B. Now, Baumgardner is hoping that Cardi B may walk her out at her next fight.
“Well, let me throw something out there. Maybe, you might like this advice. Why don’t you reach out to Cardi B and say, ‘Hey, walk me into the ring? I’m fighting for [the] undisputed [super featherweight title],'” Barak of The DAZN Boxing Show asked.
“Listen, I’m already on it,” she answered.
Alycia Baumgardner is hoping to fight WBC Super Featherweight Champion Choi Hyun-mi for the undisputed super featherweight title in 2023. It is unclear when that fight may take place, but it may arrive just in time for the roll-out of Cardi B’s sophomore album. Until then, fans will just have to wait.
