Warner Bros. has officially released the rating for the upcoming animated adaption of “The Killing Joke”. The Killing Joke is one of the highest selling controversial comics of all time because of its brutal content. To match the content portrayed in the comic, Warner has given the creators of the animated film the go-ahead to create the best adaption possible and stamping it with a R-rating.
President of Warner Bros Animation, Sam Register, confirmed the rating in a statement released to EW.
“From the start of production, we encouraged producer Bruce Timm and our team to remain faithful to the original story–regardless of the eventual MPAA rating,” he said. “The Killing Joke is revered by the fans, particularly for its blunt, often-shocking adult themes and situations. We felt it was our responsibility to present our core audience–the comics-loving community–with an animated film that authentically represented the tale they know all too well.”
The Killing Joke will premiere at Comic Con later this year and release on Blu-Ray and DVD after. A specific release has yet to be announced, but it’ll be during the summer. Last week DC released a teaser trailer for the film, you can check it, here. Stay tuned for the official trailer and release date soon.
