The production of two movies starring Will Smith have been delayed following an altercation at the 94th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California. Vulture reports that Bad Boys IV and Fast & Loose have been put on the back burner indefinitely. At this time, it is unclear if Will Smith’s character will be replaced in either film.
Recent production delays are tied to an altercation that took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California last Sunday. Towards the end of the 94th Academy Award, Chris Rock stepped on the stage to announce the winner of the “Best Documentary” category. While on stage, Rock delivered an unscripted remark that appeared to make light of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia condition. After hearing Rock’s joke, Pinkett-Smith’s husband, Will, appeared to laugh and then walk towards the stage. Then, he confronted Rock and slapped him before walking back to his seat. Upon returning to his seat, Smith repeatedly told Rock to refrain from speaking about his wife.
Not long after the incident took place, Smith won “Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the 94th Academy Awards. It was his first time winning the award in his three-decade long career. Unfortunately, the backlash from the incident that took place beforehand forced him to resign from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences days later. Still, Smith is slated to appear in Antoine Fuqua’s Emancipation.
As for Rock, he declined to press criminal charges against Smith. Moving forward, he is scheduled to embark on the “Rock Hart: Headliners Only” tour with Kevin Hart. He will also lead the “Ego Death” tour.
