Detroit Pistons shooting guard Avery Bradley has signed a confidentiality agreement, potentially paying upwards of $400,000, with a woman accusing the defensive ace of sexual assault, as reported by TMZ Sports.
According to TMZ, the alleged incident occurred on May 23 in Cleveland, when Bradley was still a member of the Boston Celtics. On that day, the Celtics won game three of the Eastern Conference Finals to bring the series to a 2-1 deficit. The accuser alleges that Bradley assaulted her when she was inebriated and therefore could not consent to sexual relations.
The woman later called Bradley directly to accuse him of assault, at which point negotiations for their out-of-court settlement started. According to the TMZ report, the agreement prevents the accuser from releasing any video, photos or audio of the incident.
Bradley, via his lawyer, vehemently denies any wrongdoing and claims that the settlement was paid solely to protect himself and his family from false accusations. Following from Bradley’s attorney, Brian Wolf, via TMZ:
“Mr. Bradley absolutely denies having engaged in wrongdoing whatsoever. The confidentiality agreement specifically refutes and denies the validity of all allegations of any wrongful conduct by Mr. Bradley. The sole purpose of the agreement was to protect the reputation and privacy of Mr. Bradley and his family.
“My office will take all appropriate action against all persons involved in the wrongful disclosure of this agreement. We will conduct a thorough investigation into who is responsible for this wrongful disclosure.”
The allegations against Bradley come at a time when cases of sexual assault and sexual harassment in the celebrity world become more and more public. Several notable members of the entertainment industry have recently been hit with similar allegations.
Bradley was traded to the Detroit Pistons during the summer and is currently out with injury.
