***MAJOR Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame Below***
Avengers: Endgame wowed critics and audiences alike when it landed in April. Not only did it break nearly every opening weekend box office record in the book, but it also stuck the landing on 11 years of storytelling in spectacular fashion.
Sadly, a big part of that success has to do with Tony Stark’s sacrificial snap at the film’s climax. Not only had Stark’s sacrifice been teased since the first Avengers but his final words, “I am Iron Man,” were a callback to the end of Iron Man, which kicked off the entire MCU. Since the film hit theaters, stars such as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth have been slowly sharing behind-the-scenes videos of the momentous film. However, BTS video of Tony’s snap has been suspiciously missing, until Friday, that is. Video of the epic and heartbreaking moment finally surfaced so fans can now watch and weep on repeat.

Interestingly, the Russo brothers have since revealed that Robert Downey Jr’s iconic line almost didn’t even make the cut. “Tony used to not say anything in that moment,” the brothers said. “And we were in the editing room going, ‘He has to say something. This a character who has lived and died by quips.’ And we just couldn’t, we tried a million different last lines. Thanos was saying ‘I am inevitable.’ And our editor Jeff Ford, who’s been with us all four movies and is an amazing storyteller, said, ‘Why don’t we just go full circle with it and say I am Iron Man.’ And we’re like, ‘Get the cameras! We have to shoot this tomorrow.”
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now. It’s also getting an extended re-release on June 28th.
