The Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott was arrested last month on two felony drug charges which could end his NBA career if he gets the maximum time which he faces up to 25 years.
Scott who was with his brother at the time failed to yield to an officer, and when Scott did pull over the deputies found over an ounce of Marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA. The drugs were sent to an independent lab for further testing and the court date could take several months to be set.
According to AJC.com the Atlanta Hawks had no further comment on the arrest in respect to the legal process. The NBA and the Hawks do not have to wait for a verdict in Scott’s case to discipline him so a suspension could come before that.
Mike Scott seemed to be one of the better pieces on the Hawks bench will add a gap to the forward spot that he could’ve taken advantage of with DeMarre Carroll leaving in free agency.
The former second round pick certainly had a larger role in his first two seasons, but averaged 7 points per game in his career. Mike Scott is known as the player with emoji’s tattooed on his arms which Vince Carter did ask him about during a game and Scott also did an odd interview just using emoji’s.
Obviously Scott’s arrest is beyond basketball and he needs to get his life in order first, but that will have to come in time as he’s got to get through the sentencing before he can make future plans. It blows my mind that someone with such a great opportunity in life can let it slip by with actions like this not that Scott is the first one to do so, and unfortunately he won’t be the last either.
