On Tuesday, the workout for the Washington Wizards included former Stanford forward Anthony Brown, who could fit into the Wizards system as a stretch player. Washington currently holds the 19th and 49th picks in the NBA Draft, and could use at least one of those to find a player who can help stretch out their offense.
After the workout, Brown felt he showed athleticism in his workout with the Wizards and other NBA teams that he had not previously shown in college. Playing in the NBA requires being able to keep up with the best players in the world, so showing athleticism is definitely a key to being able to have a long stay in the league.
Another skill Brown touched on was shooting, and how he proved he is more than a catch and shoot kind of player. In a league where teams who focus on shooting are winning championships like the Golden State Warriors did this season, it’s a necessity to be able to score in many different ways. Obviously a player doesn’t have to be able to shoot as well as Stephen Curry, but being able to score in many different ways in a must.
Following From Washington Post.
“I think I’ve shown some things in workouts that I didn’t get to show necessarily in college,” Brown said. “I showed how much more athletic I am. I think that definitely helped. That I can shoot it in a multitude of ways, not just spot-ups. I do think I helped myself. How much is hard to say because everyone has their own opinion. But I do think I helped myself.”
Brown won’t hear his name called in the first round, but he is an option for any team looking for a forward who can score from the outside while also being able to defend the post. It’s unclear where and if he will be picked, but if he is picked, a team like Washington could be in the mix.
