Angela Yee has announced that she will be parting ways with The Breakfast Club after working alongside RaaShaun “DJ Envy” Casey and Lenard “Charlamagne Tha God” McKelvey for more than a decade. Yee teased her departure from the popular morning show via Twitter on Tuesday evening.
“The breakfast club as you know it is officially over,” she tweeted.
Hours later, she appeared alongside her two longtime cohosts and informed her listeners that she’d be pursuing a solo venture. This fall, she will launch her own show called Way Up with Angela Yee. Airing midday on more than 30 stations, the show is expected to include “all of her favorite segments” from previous radio endeavors at iHeartRadio and SirirusXM.
“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a brand-new show,” Angela Yee told Tony M. Centeno of iHeartRadio.
“I appreciate everyone who has helped to make this happen at iHeartMedia, and most importantly, the listeners who are like family to me. It’s a bittersweet feeling to leave an iconic show like The Breakfast Club, which we built from the ground up for 12 years, but we will forever be an extension of each other. I’m working hard and dedicated to making our new program exciting, thoughtful, provocative, and most importantly, a safe haven for even more of us to grow and learn while having fun. I’m ready for this new chapter!”
Angela Yee will remain with The Breakfast Club until her show launches later this year. Afterward, Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy are expected to continue hosting The Breakfast Club as a duo. At this time, it is unclear how Yee’s move to middays will impact Angie Martinez or Nyla Symone’s roles at Power 105.1 and iHeartRadio as a midday show host.
