One of the greatest and most electrifying guards of his era, Allen Iverson brought an element to the court that very few had. He personified excitement and superb talent, making him an ideal mentor for this young Philadelphia 76ers team.
With franchise pieces such as Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid already making huge strides in their game, rookie guard Markelle Fultz is expected to be next up. While his rookie season has gone far from what Fultz or the organization had imagined, Iverson shared some important advice for the teenager. Video courtesy of NBC Sports:
Drafted first overall, Markelle Fultz was expected to immediately come in and compliment Ben Simmons’ playmaking but instead, we have barely any assessment of his rookie season. Fultz was able to go to start the season but since then, a controversial shoulder ailment has held him out the lineup all year.
Hearing words of encouragement from an icon such as Iverson has to uplift him as it’s clear that many people are still rooting for Fultz to have a promising and fruitful NBA career.
Since the shoulder injury surfaced, the Sixers along with Fultz have gone great measures to amend his shooting form and get him back to his college self. However, this has been an arduous and drawn out process as the Washington product continues to be sidelined in hopes of developing his shooting stroke.
Even with the Philadelphia 76ers playoff-bound for the first time in years, Fultz remains without a timetable for his return. Hopefully the young guard continues to work diligently on his shooting and can come back next year a different and rejuvenated player.
