A jury in Connecticut has awarded $965 million in damages to 15 plaintiffs defamed by the work of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
“This must be what hell is like — they just read out the damages, even though you don’t got the money,” Jones said on Wednesday, October 12.
“We disagree with the basis of the default, we disagree with the court’s evidentiary rulings,” his attorney, Norm Pattis, added in a separate statement to the press.
Infowars Host Alex Jones previously characterized the mass shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut as a hoax. Jones claimed that the event was staged and put forth by the U.S. government in order to support gun control legislation. As he propped up these claims several of the victim’s families and FBI agents who investigated the matter say they were harassed and targeted by his followers.
“Nobody should ever have to endure the kind of harassment and persecution that Alex Jones caused, especially the families of those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School,” Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont said, per ABC News.
“A jury in Connecticut today sent a strong message that what he did to these families and a first responder was disgraceful.”
Jones has not only been sued by families and FBI agents in Connecticut. Last month, a jury in Texas ruled that he must pay $49 million to the parents of another victim of the mass shooting by the name of Jesse Lewis.
Jones claims that he no longer believes that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged. However, he continues to question the validity of school shootings that have taken place in Parkdale, Florida and Uvdale, Texas.
“They want to scare us away from questioning Uvalde or Parkland,” he told InfoWars viewers.
“We’re not going away. We’re not going to stop.”
