The Boston Red Sox have announced they have re-hired their former manager. After just one year without former World Series champion manager Álex Cora, they have brought him back. Cora had to sit out the 2020 season as part of a suspension for his involvement in the sign-stealing scandal stemming from the Houston Astros. However, the Red Sox also had their own cheating issues that Major League Baseball investigated.
After a year’s suspension, Cora will return to the organization he has spent the past two seasons with. Following Cora’s hiring by the Red Sox and A.J. Hinch getting a new gig with the Detroit Tigers, both managers suspended in the sign-stealing incident have been re-hired into Major League Baseball.

The Red Sox are quite different than the last time Cora was in the dugout for the organization; with Mookie Betts now playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cora will have to adjust. The Red Sox are, sort of, rebuilding on the fly, hoping to do it in stride.
With a new General Manager calling the shots in the front office, Cora will be taking over a struggling team, looking to help them get things turned around. The 2020 season was a lackluster effort for the Red Sox, but they are going to be looking to bounce back in 2021.
While this may be “stating the obvious,” the Red Sox need to make changes if they want to be competitive in the near future. Hiring Cora is one of the changes that help elevate their chances for success since Cora was able to be quite successful in his two seasons.
He led the Red Sox to a 2018 World Series victory after a 108-54 record in the regular season. In 2019, he would lead them to an 84-78 finish as they started to falter a little bit.
