A new era in college football may be on the horizon.
On Sunday, September 17, the Associated Press unleashed its latest poll of the top twenty-five teams in college football. As expected, the University of Georgia remained in the top spot after edging by the University of South Carolina. Not far behind, the University of Michigan, the University of Texas, Florida State University and the University of Southern California round out the top five. Missing from the top five and the top ten, the University of Alabama and Nick Saban have fallen to the thirteenth spot in this week’s poll. It is the first time since 2015 that Alabama has fallen out of the top ten and moves them behind their divisional foes in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Crimson Tide didn’t lose on Saturday, September 16, but fans may have given outsiders the impression that they did. Between the play of quarterbacks Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson, Saban’s squad completed ten passes for 107 yards and no touchdowns. In fact, Alabama didn’t score any touchdowns until the second half. Ultimately, the Crimson Tide were able to pull away from the South Florida Bulls with a 14-0 run in the second half.
Next week, Alabama will return home for an SEC West showdown with Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels.
