With the 49th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards selected Aaron White, a power forward out of Iowa. Now, he is doing all he can as a member of Washington’s summer league team to earn his spot on the Wizards’ 15-man roster.
Following From Washington Post.
“My goal is to just prove that I belong and that I can impact the game,” the 22-year-old White said Monday after the minicamp’s first practice. “Depending on how the roster shakes out, I would love to play this year but obviously that’s in other people’s hands, not in mine. But I’m going to work as hard as I can and prove that I can be an asset on the floor and for the team. I’m just excited for the opportunity and to prove that I can play at this level. I love this fit for me. Their style fits with my style so it should be a good match.”
It’s going to be hard to see White actually make the team this season, but at least he understands the improbability. With 13 players already inked for next season when tomorrow’s moratorium ends, Washington only has 2 spots left and they are yet to re-sign Drew Gooden.
White will likely spend the next season overseas before officially making his NBA debut as a member of the Washington Wizards. Until then, he will hopefully continue to grow and work on his shot so he can enter the roster as a stretch forward.
