Within the last few years, Teyana Taylor has expressed a desire to step away from releasing new music. With that said, she is not stepping away from the world of entertainment entirely. Instead, she’s moved into the director’s chair for several music videos. Now, she’s making the leap as the lead in A.V. Rockwell’s feature-length film, A Thousand and One, alongside William Catlett, Aaron Kingsley Adetola and Josiah Cross.
“The film stars Inez (Teyana Taylor), an unapologetic free-spirit who kidnaps 6-year-old Terry from the foster care system. Holding on to their secret and each other, mother and son set out to reclaim their sense of home, identity and stability in a rapidly changing New York City,” the film’s synopsis reads.
The synopsis details the storyline, but it does not do justice to the heartwrenching performances that Taylor, Catlett, Adetola and Cross deliver. Since its debut at Sundance Film Festival in January, critics have not stopped raving about this film.
“Taylor’s searing portrayal of that woman is Oscar-worthy,” film critic Dwight Brown stated.
“Patiently paced and thoughtful, there are more than A Thousand And One reasons for you to see this exceptional film,” Sheri Flanders of the Chicago Reader adds.
